My First Communion Catechism

In going through all the stuff I brought back from Puerto Rico including dozens of pennants from every touristy spot my parents & I visited and several collectable items, I found "My First Communion Catechism"published in 1942. It was the lessons taught to 2nd grade Catholic kids before they go through the "sacrement of Holy Communion."

I don't remember that. All I remember from the Catholic church is I feel gypped of not being taught the Bible.

Lesson 2 from the catechism reads:
What I must do to be happy with God in heaven.
I must know God. I must love God. I must serve God.
I must do all these things now to be happy with God in heaven.
The things I see about me teach me to know God. God made them all.
No one but God could make them.
The Catholic Church teaches me to know God.
The Catholic Church teaches me how to love and serve God.
The Church teaches me God's law.
I love and serve God when I obey His law.
Then it asks...
What must you do to be happy with God in heaven?
To be happy with God in heaven I must know Him, love Him, and serve Him in the world.
Absolutely NOTHING ABOUT JESUS!

What must you do to be happy with God in heaven?

Jesus told Nicodemus the Pharisee,
I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, that unless a person is born again (anew, from above), he cannot ever see (know, be acquainted with, and experience) the kingdom of God. ~John 3:3 (amp) Read the whole story: John 3:1-21
Jesus told us in John 14:6-7
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” (niv)
I thank God for the Bible, for the Truth. I believe God's word.

What must you do to be happy with God in heaven?
Pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need You to guide my life. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
If you received Jesus into your heart, welcome to the family of God! The following will help you deepen your relationship with Christ:
  1. Pray. Just talk to God no matter where you are. He doesn't care what the words are, just that they are sincere.
  2. Read the Bible everyday to learn about Jesus and how to live a life that pleases God. Start with 1 John, then the Gospel of John, then Philippians.
  3. An important part of helping your relationship with Christ grow is to tell others about Him. Demonstrate God's love and be active in telling others about Jesus.
  4. Find a bible-based church and become active getting to know other Christians.
Being a Christian is a journey of faith with the goal to be closer to God and live like Christ and sometimes it is a struggle for some Christians to live like Christ. It also doesn't guarantee that life will be trouble free. God sends trials to test our faith. So we must read the Bible to grow stronger in faith.
